Adeline M. McKenzie, 88, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Wednesday, September 02, 2009 at Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota under the care of hospice of the Red River Valley. Adeline was born on January 16, 1921 the daughter of Emil and Erna (Zitzow) Rosentreter in Vergas, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paulchr(39)s Lutheran Church in rural Vergas, Minnesota. Adeline was raised and educated in rural Vegas. As a young women, Adeline worked at Fankhanelchr(39)s in Vergas as a waitress. She met the love of her life, while serving him ice cream. Adeline was united in marriage to Verlin McKenzie on December 6, 1944 at St. Paulchr(39)s Lutheran Church in rural Vergas., Minnesota. They made their home and farmed there until 1961 when they moved to Detroit Lakes. She eventually went to work for Mayeron's Clothing Store and later the Shoe Inn in Detroit Lakes, retiring in 1980. Adeline was a gifted baker and especially well known for the beautiful wedding cakes that she created. She crocheted blankets for each and every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, completing one just this past year. Addie also enjoyed dancing, gardening, and socializing with her many friends. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a very important part of her life and something that she treasured. She was an exceptional cook and generous hostess, making sure that no one ever left her home hungry. Adeline was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church family for nearly 50 years. Adeline is survived by three sons, Laurel (Jackie) Mckenzie, Darel (Mary) McKenzie, Dennis (Kristi) McKenzie all of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; daughter, Charlyne McKenzie of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alvin (Ruth) Rosentreter, Melvin (Donna) Rosentreter both of Vergas, Minnesota; Ben (Lois) Rosentreter of Lindstrom, Minnesota; three sisters, Gertrude Glawe of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; Betty Glawe of Vergas, Minnesota; Dorothy Rehbein of Dent, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Jane Rosentreter of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews. Adeline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Verlin (2003), great-grandson, Hunter McKenzie; sister, Violet Hoffman, brother, Harry Rosentreter and infant sister, Viola Rosentreter.
