Maurice M. Strom, 70 of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Maurie Strom was born on July 5, 1939 in Ashby, Minnesota to Maurice and Edna Alvstad Strom. Over the years they lived in several towns in western Minnesota and North Dakota, including Braddock, North Dakota and Tintah, Minnesota. He graduated from Tintah High School in 1957. He then attended Valley City State University, where he received a Bachelors degree in education. He taught school for four years at Washington Elementary School in Detroit Lakes. He then worked for Mahube in Detroit Lakes for several years before starting his work at Rural Minnesota CEP, where he retired from in 1989. Maurie spent winters in Casa Grande, Arizona. He enjoyed many things including golf, crossword puzzles, and the Minnesota Twins. But nothing was more important than time spent with his family. He is survived by a daughter, Sheila (Jeff) Laney, of Dilworth, MN; two sons, Thomas (Trish) Strom, of Fargo, ND, and Jon (Theresa) Strom, of Fargo, ND; four Grandchildren, Courtney Wipf, Mathew Strom, Elizabeth Strom, and Patrick Strom; three StepGrandchildren, Amanda, Hannah, and Carson Laney; Mother Edna Strom, of Elbow Lake, MN; one brother; Roger (Liz) Strom, of Ashby, MN; two sisters; Carole (Doug) Daniels, of Ashby, MN, and Debbie (Greg) Roberts, of Ottertail, MN; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; Maurice S. Strom; and one sister Erma Erickson.
