Edward Richard Layland age 86 of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota died Sunday November 1, 2009 at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Edward Layland was born on September 5, 1923 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Charles and Belle (Raynard) Layland. He grew up and attended school in La Crosse. He then valiantly served his country during WWII in the 4 Marine Raiders. He received numerous medals and commendations. On July 1, 1946 he was united in marriage to Rita Brasda. They made their home in La Crescent, Minnesota and Edward worked as a carpenter. He later moved to Osage, Minnesota, where he resided for 25 years before moving to The Lamplighter three years ago. Edward moved to Emmanuel Nursing Home earlier this year. Edwardchr(39)s hobbies included hunting and fishing. His family would like to express a special thank you to all of Edwardchr(39)s loving friends and the wonderful staff at Lamplighter and Emmanuel Nursing Home. Edward is survived by three daughters; Linda (Larry) Soland of Houston, Minnesota, Joan (Jim) Falk of Creighton, Missouri, and Norma Milligan of Temple, Texas, one son; David Layland, of St. Paul, Minnesota, thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter Rita.
