Russell D. Skinner, 83, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Saturday, January 09, 2010 at St. Marychr(39)s Innovis Health, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Russell was born on October 16, 1926, the son of John and Esther (Olsen) Skinner in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He attended country school at district 41 in the Hamden Township of Becker County, Minnesota. Russell enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945 and served on the USS Ajax until receiving an honorable discharge in 1948. He married Fern Mott in December 0f 1949. They made their home in Texas for a couple of years, before returning to Audubon. Russell farmed in the Hamden Township area, worked as a bar tender at Audubon Liquor Store and the VFW in Detroit Lakes. He also was a truck driver for the Audubon Elevator. Russell enjoyed visiting with his friends and family. Russell is survived by his son, Russell W. (Julie) Skinner of Manvel, North Dakota; daughter, JoAnne (Rick) Hanson of Lake Park, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Marcy (Tim) Henrikson, Andrea (Michael) Hanson-Lewis, Michael Hanson, Christopher (Gina) Skinner, Laura Skinner, Russell Skinner, Elizabeth Skinner, Benjamin Skinner; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Kohler ofMokelumne, California; Martha Remmen of Audubon, Minnesota; three brothers, Philip (Toni) Hanson of St. George, Utah; Enes (June) Hanson of Davis, California; Helmer Hanson Jr. of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews. Russell was preceded in death by his parents,his stepfather, Helmer Hanson Sr.; two sisters, Ethel Hanson and Louise Hanson; brother, Daniel Skinner and special friend, Esther Wooldridge.
