Elzada J. Brogren

Elzada J. Brogren, 94, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Elzada was born on March 20, 1915, the daughter of Oscar and Margrethe (Valtinson) Fagerlie in Audubon, Minnesota. She was the second of nine children. Elzada was raised and educated in Audubon. As a teenager, she would ride the train to Detroit Lakes to work as a house keeper for the Mox Olson residence and also go to the movie theater with her sisters. Elzada was united in marriage to Vernon Brogren on October 13, 1940 in Audubon. They farmed for a few years and later moved to Detroit Lakes in 1957. She worked at Blandings for twenty-eight years as a sales clerk and later at St. Marychr(39)s Hospital as a baker/cook for a number of years. Elzada enjoyed to bake and was known for her Lefse. She also enjoyed dancing, traveling, gardening, going out to eat, especially the ice cream that would follow the meal, mowing her lawn and in her later years supervising those who tried. The time Elzada, truly treasured were the opportunities to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elzada is survived by three sons; Jim (Mary Ann) Brogren of Detroit Lakes, MN; Jerry (Toni) Brogren of Audubon, MN; Butch (Karla) Brogren of Deroit Lakes, MN; one daughter, Vernette (Darrell) Olson of Detroit Lakes, MN; eleven grandchildren; Jim Brogren Jr., Brian Brogren, Shannon (Teresa) Brogren, Justin ( Missy) Olson, Jared Olson, Jason Brogren, Corey Brogren, Kristi (Jeff) Schlauderaff, Robert (Shelly) Brogren John Worden and Scott (Karen) Worden; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Brogren of Ulen, MN; Marie (Arnie) Brandvig of Fargo, ND; two sisters-in-law, Frieda Fagerlie of Michigan and Phyllis (Julius Schmidt of Detroit Lakes, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Elzada was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vernon (1991), four brothers and two sisters.
