Donald R. Britton, 88, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died February 4, 2010 at his home. Don was born on September 30, 1921, the son of Harry and Edna (Peck) Britton in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He was educated in Detroit Lakes and attended agriculture school in Crookston, Minnesota. As a young man, Don was in the Civilian Conservation Corp and later enlisted in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Salt Lake City. After receiving an honorable discharge, Don started to work as a lineman for Yellowstone Valley Coop in Huntley, Montana for twenty-three years. In 1968, he moved to Bremerton, Washington and continued to work as a lineman for Puget Sound Power and Light until his retirement in 1982. Don was married to Doris Halverson on August 7, 1972 in Bremerton, Washington. In 1987 they moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and for the last eighteen years would spend their winters in Arizona. Don was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the USS Salt Lake City Association. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, wood working and wood crafts. Don is survived by his wife, Doris Britton of Detroit Lakes, MN; one son, Neil (Linda) Britton of Preston, MN; two daughters, Pam (Ken) Gulseth of Detroit Lakes, MN; Donna (Jeff) David of Bremerton, WA; nine grandchildren, Aliesha and Janelle Britton, Craig (Lori) Britton, Ross Britton, Allen (Amy) Gulseth, Mark (Merideth) Gulseth, Kari Gulseth, Dana Hoffman, Tawni ; twenty great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marj (Jerome) Leegard of Callaway, MN; Betty Klomstad of Detroit Lakes, MN; Peggy (Lyle) Leegard of Detroit Lakes, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Leanne Gulseth and brother-in-law, Donald Klomstad.
