Olga M. Root

Olga M. "Sally" Root age 95 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Thursday February 25, 2010 at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Olga Mathilda Root was born on April 30, 1914 in Lake Eunice Township, MN, to Nils and Caroline Harberg Hanson. As a young girl her family moved to Ottertail County near Pelican Rapids, MN, where she grew up and attended school. On June 12, 1937 she was united in marriage to Frank Root in Detroit, Michigan. They moved to Detroit Lakes in the fall of 1937 and made their home there until 1943 when they moved to a farm in rural Detroit Lakes. Sally worked at Blandings Dept. Store in Detroit Lakes for many years and later at Swiftchr(39)s in Frazee until her retirement in 1979. Following retirement she and Frank enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. Sally was an active member of Bakke Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years. She enjoyed bowling, knitting, gardening and cake decorating. Time spent with her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren was very special to her. She is survived by two sons, Vince (Donna) Root, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Charles Root, of Big Lake, MN; one daughter, Nancy (Charles) Barbin, of Park Rapids, MN; eight grandchildren, Kim Kramer, of Fargo, ND; Michelle Root, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Randy Guida, of Park Rapids, MN; Rodger Knudtson, of Moorhead, MN; Jodi Root, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lisa Devries, of Rochester, MN; Michael Barbin, of Fort Hood, TX; Michelle Michot, of Marksville, LA; twenty great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, one brother, Roy S. Hanson, of Frazee, MN, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank (2002), parents, five sisters, Marie Crosby, Julia Meath, Emma Olson, Nanda Goebel, and Gyda Johnson; three brothers, Ivan, Louie, and Harvey Hanson; grandson, Jon Knudtson.
