Richard A. Tovson

Richard "Dick" A. Tovson, 80, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Innovis Health, Fargo, North Dakota. Dick was born on January 24, 1930, the son of Arthur and Hazel "Toots" (Klomstad) Tovson in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He was baptized on March 10, 1930 and confirmed on May 14, 1944 at First Lutheran Church. Dick was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes. He excelled at sports, especially baseball and basketball. Dick graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1947. Shortly after school, he began working for his father at City Transfer. Dick was united in marriage to Ruth (Dolly) Larson on June 30, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Audubon, Minnesota. In 1962, Dick purchased the business from his dad and continued to operate it until selling the business in 1984. He continued the trucking portion of the business until, retiring in 1997. Dick enjoyed golf, watching college sports on TV and visiting in his coffee groups with his close friends. He was an active member at First Lutheran Church. Dick was a dedicated family man and especially enjoyed the time spent withfamily and friends. Thelight of his life was his specialgranddaughter, Sally. Dick is survived by his wife, Ruth "Dolly" Tovson of Detroit Lakes, MN; son, Tom (Audrey) Tovson of Detroit Lakes, MN; daughter, Kris Tovson of Detroit Lakes, MN; one granddaughter, Sally (Tommy) Shirek; one sister, Shirley "Sis" Olson of Detroit Lakes, MN; numerous nieces and nephews; countless special friends and his four legged friends, Greta, Brynn, Frieda and Rita. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Warren Tovson and Curtis "Buzz" Tovson.
