Solveig Ovidia Nordsletten, 89, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at her Home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Solveig was born on July 16, 1920, the daughter of Martin and Marie (Haugen) Tiller in Wanamingo, Minnesota. She received her elementary and secondary education in Wanamingo. Solveig continued her education at Winona State College and University of Minnesota to become an elementary and music teacher. She taught in District 67, Goodhue County, Millville, Plainview and Cannon Falls, Minnesota. Solveig met her husband Orville while he was in the service. They were married on June 6, 1948 in Wanamingo. Solveig and Orville resided in several Minnesota cities until making their home in Detroit Lakes in 1956. She was a woman of strong faith and was very active member at First Lutheran Church. Solveig had a beautiful voice, played piano, played percussion instruments in school and marched in many parades. Shared her voice for many weddings, funerals and with her strong Scandinavian background traveled to Norway and other European countries, where she sang in choirs. Solveig also sang at Oak Crossing, Emmanuel Nursing Center, Lincoln Park and was an active part of Playhouse 412. She was active as a volunteer in the visitation program at St. Marychr(39)s Innovis Health and Oak Crossing. Solveig received the "SeniorCitizen of the Year" in Becker County in 2009. Solveig will be missed by her family, friends and those who were touched by the music she shared for so many years. Solveig is survived by her son, Daniel (Valerie) Nordsletten of Fargo, North Dakota; daughter, Marie (Douglas) Schneider of Weeping Water, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, Doreen (Peter) Fox, Kari (Julius) Sinclair, Jason, Danielle and Calvin Nordsletten, Andrew Schneider, Peter Schneider and his fiance, Laura Pollard, Amanda and Fred Schneider; four great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Kaydence, Derrick and Airrin; one brother, John (Karen) Tiller of Wanamingo, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews. Solveig was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Orville, two sisters, Martha Johnson and Lois Farris.
