Ernest Alfred Myrom, 95, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Friday, May 28, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Ernie was born to Anton and Anna (Nelson) Myrom on July 25, 1914 in Highlanding, Minnesota. He worked on the family farm from the time he was young. Ernie also worked at the Thief River Creamery until he enlisted in the United States Navy on July 27, 1942. He fought in World War II and received an honorable discharge on November 14, 1945. Ernie worked for the Soo Line Railroad in Minneapolis, until moving to Chicago, where he did custodial work until his retirement. While in Chicago he met and married Vera Katherine Heckenkamp on February 12, 1971. Ernie loved to hunt, fish, spending time at the hunting cabin, traveling, visiting with friends and relatives. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and would often be seen walking with his two poles and visiting with people along the way. Ernie is survived by his six sisters, Thelma Halvorson of Thief River Falls, MN; Caroline Egenes of Detroit Lakes, MN; Harriet Christianson of White Bear Lake, MN; Evelyn Thaxton of Detroit Lakes,MN; Leona McGill of Columbia Heights, MN and Vivian Gilbertson of Moorhead, MN; many nieces and nephews. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Vera, two brothers, Clarence and Clifford Myrom, three sisters, Agnes Myrom, Marion McAnnany and Irene Steenerson.
