Marjorie Louise Leegard age 89 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Monday July 12, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Marjorie Leegard was born August 4, 1920 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Harry and Edna Peck Britton. She grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1938. On May 31, 1942 she was united in marriage to Jerome Leegard at Richwood Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes. Theychr(39)ve lived and farmed in Hamden Township their entire lives. Marjorie was very active in her church and in various womenchr(39)s organizations. This included being past president of the Richwood Lutheran Church and the Richwood Lutheran Parish Council. She also served on the Board of Regents at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Marjorie was a very talented writer. She wrote for Lutheran Women Today and also for The Lutheran. She was also a renowned speaker, speaking at retreats and Bible camps in 17 states. She was recognized by the Gettysburg and Wartburg Seminaries for her accomplishments. She was the first woman to serve on the Becker County Fair Board. Her hobbies included painting and rosemaling. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and time spent with her family. She is survived by her husband, Jerome; one son, Jerome Jr. "Jim" (Sharon) Leegard, of Detroit Lakes, MN; four grandchildren, Scott (Dawn) Leegard, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Julie (William) Berger, of Georgetown, MN; Megan (Luke) Metzinger, of Milwaukee, WI; Kaitlyn Greenland, of Minooka, IL; four great grandchildren, Ashley Leegard, Ryan Leegard, Melanie Metzinger, and Ava Berger; two sisters, Betty Klomstad, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Peggy (Lyle) Leegard, of Detroit Lakes, MN; sister in law, Doris Britton, of Detroit Lakes, MN; son in law, Joe (Marna) Greenland, of Minooka, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Laurie Greenland; one brother, Donald Britton, and a brother in law, Donald Klomstad.
