Doris M. Norstad

Doris M. Norstad age 89 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Friday July 30, 2010 at her residence under the care of hospice. Doris Norstad was born on July 15, 1921 in Plaza, North Dakota to Ole and Minnie Ranberg Ike. She grew up on a ranch and attended school, graduating from Plaza High School. She then attended Minot State Teachers College, majoring in business. On October 4, 1947 she was united in marriage to Erling Norstad. They made their home in Fargo, ND. Doris worked as a bookkeeper for 35 years. She worked at Peoples State Bank in Parshall, ND, 1st National Bank in Fargo, Cass-Clay Creamery in Fargo, Fargo Foundry, Kahler Motel, in Fargo, and Miller Trucking, in Moorhead, MN. In 1980 she semi retired to Island Lake, and worked as an investor for the next twenty years. Doris was active at Immanuel Lutheran Church, including Altar Guild, Ladies Aid, Bible Study, Christian Womens Group, and Tuesday Quilters. She also served as a cub scout den mother, as well as a member of the Becker County Homemakers, and the Jolly Lakers. She enjoyed baking, especially cookies, daily walks with nature, and socializing with friends and neighbors. She wore a warm and welcoming smile, along with her delightful sense of humor. She is survived by her son, David Norstad, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and four Nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erling (1971); Parents; one son, Scott Norstad; and three brothers, Orlin, Chester, and Lloyd Ike.
