Mary K. Simon

Mary K. Simon, 53, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Monday, August 30, 2010 at her home under the care of hospice of the Red River Valley. Mary was born on December 18, 1956 to Charles and Juliet (Larson) Karn. She attended Detroit Lakes public schools and later earned her GED, which she was very proud of. From 1972 to 1978 Mary worked at St. Marychr(39)s Nursing Center in the dietary department. She later worked a short time at Swiftchr(39)s in Detroit Lakes. On March 31, 1978 Mary was united in marriage to Robert (Red) Simon. They made their home in Detroit Lakes. Mary and Red enjoyed riding motorcycle and took many trips, including a trip to Sturgis in 1981. Mary worked for West Central Turkeys in Pelican Rapids for the past 23 years. She was forced to stop working in June of this year due to her declining health. Mary loved to read and spend time with her grandchildren. Mary deeply loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her daughter Michelle. Mary will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Robert (Red) Simon of Detroit Lakes, MN; and loving daughter, Michelle Jones (Joel Fischer) of Rice, MN two grandchildren, Courtney and Keenan Jones both of Rice, MN; one sister, Bonnie (Terry) Sorlien of Frazee, MN; one nephew, Gene (Ruby) Gunderson, of Vergas, MN; and one sister in law, Sheri Gunderson, of Detroit Lakes, MN. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ronnie Gunderson.
