Einar G. Rebne, 82, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family and his dog, Snoops under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Einar was born on July 16, 1928 to Andrew and Gertie (Brolin) Rebne in Lignite, North Dakota. At the age of three his family moved to farm in the Powers Lake and Battleview area. A few years later they moved to McGregor and later to Columbus, North Dakota where his dad was a blacksmith. In the late 30s his family owned and operated a restaurant in Columbus, where Einar and his siblings worked. During his younger years, Einar enjoyed hunting and fishing. He played basketball in high school and graduated from Columbus High School in 1947. After graduation he went to work in the local coal mines, before moving to Washington to work in the logging industry. Einar later returned to Columbus and continued to work in the coal mines. He married Florence Kvigne on September 21, 1950. In 1951, Einar was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War, until receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. He returned home to work in the coal mines until 1957 and went to work for Northern Natural Gas in the oil fields. In 1966, Einar was transferred to Oklahoma and worked for Mobil Oil Corp untilhe retired in 1978. Einar and Florence moved to a hobby farm in rural Detroit Lakes, until they built their lake home on Big Floyd Lake in 1987. Einar liked to tinker with cars, especially with his son, Cory at his side. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a Masonic Lodge member in North Dakota. Einar is survived by his wife, Florence Rebne of Detroit Lakes, MN; daughter, Robin (David) Burkel Jr. of Frazee, MN; son, Cory Rebne of Detroit Lakes, MN; five grandchildren, Bandi (Shane) Pietzsch, Heather (Treg) Voyles, Megan, Grant and Peter Burkel; one great-grandson; two step great-granddaughters; sister, Pearl Krager of Cedar Park, TX; sister-in-law, Barb Rebne of Morrisonville, NC; numerous nieces and nephews. Einar was preceded in death by his parents, son, Allen, brother, Milo Rebne, two sisters, Alice Swenson and Milly Steen.
