Delia A. Hokenson, 85, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Monday, January 10, 2011 at Essentia Health, Fargo, North Dakota. Delia was born on March 18, 1925 the daughter of Wester and Alma (Ketonen) Harvala in Shell Lake Township on the family farm. She attended school in Detroit Lakes and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. Delia went on to attend St. Johnchr(39)s School of Nursing in Fargo, North Dakota, graduating in September of 1946. She was united in marriage to Henry Hokenson on July 25, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. Delia joined the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps and after graduation the World War II had ended, so she no longer was obligated to serve in the Nurse Corps. Delia and Henry made their home in Illinois for a short time before returning to Detroit Lakes. She worked for St. Marychr(39)s Hospital as a RN, while operating Sunny Beach Resort on Cotton Lake. She retired in 1988. Delia was active at Assembly of God Church, enjoyed painting and picking berries to make jelly. She loved to travel which included trips throughout the United States and Finland. Delia will be remembered for her love of her family and especially her grandchildren. She also loved to visit and spend time with her many friends. Delia is survived by her two sons, Richard (Gail) Hokenson and James (Jane) Hokenson both of Detroit Lakes, MN; three daughters, Judy (C.F.) Dull of River Falls, WI; Patty (Gary) Fode of Moorhead, MN; Kathy Ferrari of Clitherall, MN; nine grandchildren, Casey (Nicole) Hokenson, Nicole (Chris) Wiggins, Christy (Brent) Swanson, April (Joel) Hyzer, Aaron Johnson, Adam and Brian Fode, Aimee Campbell, Haylee Ferrari; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Theresia Broberg of Detroit Lakes, MN; Ruth (Wayne) Thompson of Lakeland, FL; one brother, Waine (Carol) Oien; numerous nieces and nephews. Delia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry (2007), son-in-law, Don Ferrari, two sisters, Anita Pearson and Ellen Longfors, five brothers, Rudy, Gene, Hugo B. and Reino Harvala, Art Oien.
