Agnes E. Chapman, 95, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Sunday, January 23, 2011 at Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Agnes was born on July 2, 1915 the daughter of John and Agda (Olson) Olson in Averill, Minnesota. She attended country school in District 50, rural Lake Park, Minnesota. As a young adult, she moved to Minneapolis and worked at the Strutwear Factory. Agnes later returned to Detroit Lakes and was united in marriage to Douglas Chapman on January 18, 1942 at First Lutheran Church. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, where they owned and operated Chapman Oil Equipment. Agnes was the office manager for the business and kept everything in order. In 1980, she was named Outstanding Women of the year at the annual Professional Womenchr(39)s Banquet in Detroit Lakes. Agnes was active at First Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council and was a member of the Ruth Circle. Prayer was also a big part of her life and choosing right from wrong. She was an active volunteer at the hospital, nursing home and meals on wheels to name a few. Agnes and Doug were active with the Eagles Club, where she was part of the Eagles Auxiliary. Agnes enjoyed dancing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and bowling. She enjoyed spending time with friends and her family. She will be greatly missed by her family. Agnes is survived by her children, Kathy Maki of Detroit Lakes, MN; Ron (Trudy) Chapman of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lynn (Jim) Kaiser of Lake Park, MN; five grandchildren, Todd Borstad, Darryl (Tami) Chapman, Jennifer (Taylor) Kearns, Glenn (Kristen) Chapman and Myna Wintz; three great-grandchildren, Samantha Borstad, Brett Chapman and Zoe Kearns; two sisters, Gladys Johnson of Detroit Lakes, MN; Evelyn "Tootsie" Cook of Tacoma, WA; numerous nieces and nephews. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Douglas (1996), grandson, Joshua Kaiser, two sisters, Mildred Lewis and Marian Jacobson, two brothers, Irwin Olson and Leonard Olson.
