Marilyn F. Johnson, rural Detroit Lakes, MN, died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, in the presence of loved ones. Marilyn was born on August 24, 1932, the daughter of Samuel and Susan (Kammer) Brunner in Hammond, Indiana. She was raised and educated in Hammond, graduating from Hammond Tech High School. Marilyn was united in marriage to Earl Johnson on January 5, 1952 in Hammond. She worked at Thornridge High School in Dolton, Illinois for many years. After Marilyn and Earl retired, they made their home on Pelican Lake in rural Detroit Lakes. Marilyn was a very active member at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church. She was also a member of the American Legion and Eagles in Detroit Lakes. She enjoyed bowling for many years, reading and knitting. Marilyn was very devoted to her family. Her time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the moments she treasured the most. Marilyn is survived by two sons, Ronald (Angela) Johnson of Schererville, IN; David (Cindy) Johnson of Valparaiso, IN; three daughters, Mary (Ron) Riddell of Calumet City, IN; Patricia (James) Dobin of Cedar Lake, IN; Marjorie (Anthony Wallow) Johnson of Detroit Lakes, MN; fourteen grandchildren, Susan Jennifer, Eric, James, Jody, Carl. Jennie J., Donna, Richard, Michael, Thomas, Timothy, Ashley, and Joshua; eleven great grandchildren, Stephanie, Jonathon, Austin, Michael, Robert, Jay, Kayla, Mark, Anna, Preston, and Carson; one brother-in-law, Robert McKay of Detroit Lakes, MN; sister-in-law, Bonnie Brunner of Hammond, IN; numerous nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Earl (1999), son, Raymond, infant daughter, Donna; four brothers and two sisters.
