Darrell C. Jacobs age 76 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Monday April 18, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota. Darrell Clyde Jacobs was born On July 25, 1934 in Vanhook, North Dakota to Jacob and Clara Kueffler Jacobs. He grew up and attended school in Stanley, North Dakota, graduating from Stanley High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1956 during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the Army he attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota for 2 years. He worked as a diesel mechanic for the next ten years. He then taught diesel mechanics at North Dakota State School of Science from 1967-1972. On August 29, 1968 he was united in marriage to Roselyn Melhus. In 1972 they moved to Staples, MN, where Darrell taught at the Staples Vocational and Technical School until 1980. During that time he attended Bemidji State University, where he earned a B.S. Degree in Education. In 1980 they moved to Indonesia where Darrell worked in the oil fields and later in the copper industry. In 1997 he retired and moved to Detroit Lakes. Among many interests, Darrell enjoyed aviation. He was a pilot and a flight instructor who owned and operated a flight school, J & S Aviation. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, as well as a Master Clocksmith. He also enjoyed camping and story telling. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Lions, and Toastmasters. Darrell is survived by his wife Roselyn, two sons, Dan (Danell) Melhus, of Duncanville, TX; Keith (Kellie) Jacobs, of Spanaway, WA; two daughters, Cindy Melhus, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Laurie (Brian) Johnson, of Ham Lake, MN; twelve grandchildren; 2 great Grandchildren; two brothers, Al (Ollie) Jacobs, of Three Forks, MT; Mike (Suzette) Jacobs, of Grand Forks, ND; two sisters, Eileen (Neil) Kelstrom, of Turtle Lake, ND; Pat Fern, of Stanley, ND; and several nieces and nephews. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Wanda Jo Jacobs; and one granddaughter, Dana Melhus.
