James A. Walberg age 71 of Rochert, MN died Saturday May 7, 2011 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota. James Allen Walberg was born on June 26, 1939 in rural Detroit Lakes, MN to Robert and Lena Moser Walberg. He grew up and attended country school in Richwood Township, and later attended Detroit Lakes High School, graduating in 1957. On October 18, 1958 he was united in marriage to Donna Gandrud. They made their home in Rolling Meadows, Illinois where Jim began his trucking career. In 1966 they moved to Clear Lake, MN where they owned and operated the Elk Lake resort. In 1973 they moved to Mounds View, MN. Jim continued trucking until 1991 when he took a job as a custodian with the Mounds View School District. He retired in 2004 and returned to Becker County to live on Cotton Lake with his life partner Carole. Jim always had a passion for farming. His other interests included hunting, fishing, tinkering in his garage and taking care of his vintage John Deere garden tractor. He and Carole also enjoyed the winters they spent in Arizona. Jim is survived by his life partner Carole Welsch, of Rochert, MN; three daughters, Nancy (David) Nelson, of Blaine, MN; Sharon (Dave) Ferguson, of Coon Rapids, MN; Sandra (Daniel) Westerman, of Shoreview, MN; one son, Thomas James Walberg, of Stillwater, MN; five grandchildren, Tony, Derek, Jennifer, Ivar, and Ella Lu; two brothers, Milt (Joan) Walberg, of Arlington Heights, Illinois; and Jerry Walberg, of Detroit Lakes, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister in law, Patricia Walberg.
