Carl Leo Steen, 87, Rochert, Minnesota, died Friday, May 13, 2011 at Essentia Health, Fargo, North Dakota. Leo was born on June 12, 1923, the son of Walter and Anna (Anderson) Steen in Davenport, North Dakota. He attended elementary school in Richwood and high school in Detroit Lakes. After high school he worked on numerous farms in the area and later entered the United States Army in 1949, receiving an honorable discharge in 1955. Leo was united in marriage to Gunda Bakken on December 16, 1956 at Egelund Lutheran Church. They made their home in the Rochert area, where he farmed and was employed by Tomlinson Lumber Company for 30 years. Leo enjoyed fishing, gardening, riding bike to get the mail, watching movies with Gunda, listening to music and was an avid reader. Leo is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Gunda Steen of Rochert, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ina Franks.
