Jerome P. Leegard Sr., 92, rural Detroit Lakes, Minnesota died Wednesday, June 08, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Jerome was born on December 27, 1918, the son of Joseph and Petrina (Berg) Leegard in Hamden Township of rural Becker County, Minnesota. He attended country school in District 44. Jerome was united in marriage to Marjorie Britton on May 31, 1942 at Richwood Lutheran Church. They made their home in Hamden Township, where Jerome farmed his entire life. He also raised horses during those years, which included his team horses, Tony and Bob, also April and May. In the later years, Jerome took an active roll in providing transportation for his wife, Marjoriechr(39)s speaking engagements around the United States. Jerome enjoyed tinkering with his 1943 Model B John Deere Tractor and growing roses, especially when they were ready to give to his wife. After Marjoriechr(39)s passing, Jerome enjoyed the company of his dog, Foxy and his cat, Angel. Jerome is survived by his son, Jerome Jr. "Jim" (Sharon) Leegard of Detroit Lakes, MN; four grandchildren, Scott (Dawn) Leegard of Detroit Lakes, MN; Julie (William) Berger of Dilworth, MN; Megan (Luke) Metzinger of Milwaukee, WI and Kaitlyn Greenland of Minooka, IL; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Leegard, Ryan Leegard, Melanie Metzinger and Ava Berger; three sister-in-laws, Betty Klomstad; Peggy (Lyle) Leegard; Doris Britton all of Detroit Lakes, MN; son-in-law, Joe (Marna) Greenland of Minooka, IL. Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marjorie (2010), daughter, Laurie Greenland and brother, Leroy Leegard.
