Vernon D. Mastin age 86 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Sunday July 24, 2011 at St. Marychr(39)s Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes, MN. Vernon DeForrest Mastin was born on April 22, 1925 in Fort Clark, ND to Virgil and Elsie Eckenrode Mastin. They moved to Evergreen, MN in 1935, where Vernon grew up and attended school. He graduated from Frazee High School in 1943. On April 22, 1945 he was united in marriage to Juliette Brahmer in Detroit Lakes, MN. They made their home in Detroit Lakes. Vernon worked for Holsum Bakery for 39 years. After retiring from Holsum he worked at BTD and did maintenance work at WE Fest. Vernon was a member at Grace Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the Sunshine Boys. He was in a bowling league for many years, and also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed traveling with his family and had a tremendous sense of humor. He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him; he touched the hearts of many. He is survived by two daughters, Georgia (Arnie) Olson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Deb Harrington, of St. Paul, MN; one son, Craig (Becky) Mastin, of Detroit Lakes, MN; one foster son, Todd (Diana) Peterson, of Flower Mound, TX; seven grandchildren, Michelle Johnson, of El Paso, TX; Jeanie (Mike) Andringa, of Crookston, MN; Jake (Bethany) Mastin, of Fargo, ND; Robin Peterson, of Flower Mound, TX; Justin Peterson, of Flower Mound, TX; Todd Olson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Jill (Elliot Younger) Olson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; nine great grandchildren; Chad, Christopher, and Cody Johnson; Lukas Andringa; Angela, Jeremy, and Tatiana Olson; and Jade and Colby Olson; one great great granddaughter, McKenzie Blauert; four brothers, Ivan (Gen) Mastin, of Montevidio, MN; Ed Mastin, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Virgil (Pat) Mastin, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Gordy (Carol) Mastin, of Park Rapids, MN; two sisters, Lora Moss, of Perham, MN; and Joyce (Bruce) Peterson, of Montevidio, MN; sister in law, Marlys Brahmer, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Juliette "Babe" (2003); Parents; two brothers Jake and Gerry Mastin; one sister, Opal Morrison; and one great grandson, Joshua Oelfke.
