Herbert P. Beug

Herbert P. Beug age 81 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Monday August 15, 2011 at Golden Manor Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes, MN. Herb was born on December 18, 1929 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Paul and Elsie Peterson Beug. He grew up and attended school there until 1943 when the family moved to Luverne, MN, where his father purchased the Coast to Coast Hardware Store. He worked in the store and attended school, graduating from Luverne High School in 1947. He continued his education at Worthington Junior College, graduating in 1949. Herb was united in marriage to Ramona Boisen at St. Johnchr(39)s Lutheran Church in Luverne on August 26, 1950. They made their home in Luverne and Herb continued to work with his father in the hardware store and they raised a family of six children. Herb was a volunteer fireman for 20 years. He also held several offices in the Jaycees, including President in 1959. He served as a Cub Scout leader and was active in church, teaching Sunday school for several years. In 1969 they moved back to Detroit Lakes where he was associated with his father in the Coast to Coast store there. Herb continued in the business until 1996 when two of his sons took over ownership. Throughout his life he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching football and basketball, reading, and spending time with his family. After retirement he still loved to come in and help out in the office at the store. In November of 2004 he suffered a stroke and has been in failing health since. Herb is survived by his wife Ramona; one daughter Carol (Gary) Padrta, of Detroit Lakes, MN; five sons, David (Mary) Beug, of Colorado Springs, CO; Bruce (Corinne) Beug, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Mark (Barb) Beug, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Chris (Linda) Beug, of Minden, NV; and Greg (Jacinda) Beug, of Vail, AZ; seventeen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn (Marty) Steffel, of Nevis, MN; one brother in law; Jarvis (Darlene) Boisen, of Luverne, MN; and three nephews, Ron Boisen, Gary Boisen, and Alan Boisen. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Pamela Ann Beug, and one sister, Betty Beug.
