Jean M. Hopman, 78, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at her home. Jean was born on April 18, 1933 the daughter of Ole and Evelyn (Johnston) Dahl in Devils Lake, North Dakota. She was raised in rural Michigan, North Dakota and attended country school, where her mother, Evelyn was also the teacher. Jean graduated from Michigan High School in 1951. After high school she attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks and after graduating in 1952, she became a secretary at ASC in Grand Forks for six years. Jean was united in marriage to Dennis Hopman on August 6, 1956 at St. Lawrence Ochr(39)Toole Catholic Church, Michigan, North Dakota. They made their home in Mayville, while Dennis was attending Mayville State College. They later moved to Esmond, North Dakota for eight years and then to Moorhead, Minnesota for six years, before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1971. Jeanchr(39)s family was the most important part of her life. She loved to plan and host family gatherings. Jean also treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with Dennis, which they did often during their retirement years. Jean also enjoyed ceramics, sewing, gardening, golf, snowmobiling, boating and watching the Minnesota Twins. Jean is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Dennis Hopman of Detroit Lakes, MN; children, Kim (Brad) Johnson of Prior Lake, MN; Kent Hopman of Detroit Lakes, MN; Denise (Eric) Musland of LaMoure, ND; two grandchildren, Molly and Max Musland; one brother, Dennis (Millie) Dahl of Thief River Falls, MN; two sisters, Jacqueline Hopman of Detroit Lakes, MN; Shirley (Albert) Binfet of Elgin, ND; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, brother, James Dahl and brother-in-law, Pat Hopman.
