Robert D. Wellman age 81 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Friday September 23, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Robert Wellman was born on June 17, 1930 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Theodore and Helen Wolfe Wellman. He grew up and received his education in Aberdeen, graduating from Aberdeen High School. He worked in the Red Owl grocery store in Aberdeen before serving in the United States Army from 1950-1952. Following his discharge he returned to Aberdeen, where he was united in marriage to Gladys Delzer on July 19, 1953. They lived in Aberdeen for a short time before moving to Mankato, where he worked for the Red Owl store there. Later they moved to St. Peter, MN, where Bob worked as a manager of the Red Owl for the next 25 years. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1982 when they purchased the Village Resort on Lake Melissa, which they operated until 1996. Bob also obtained his real estate license and actively worked in real estate for many years, most recently for Edina Realty. Bob was very active in his church, serving as a former President of the Immanuel Lutheran Church Council. He enjoyed fishing, the Minnesota Vikings, and most importantly spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Gladys; two daughters, Robin (Tony) Huseby, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Sue (Ben) McVenes, of Mankato, MN; one son, Perry (Pam) Wellman, of Detroit Lakes, MN; seven grandchildren, Hollie Selly; Corey Lee, Robert, and Tiffany Huseby; Cory Ray McVenes; and Nick and Whitney Wellman; three great grandchildren, Brodie Mausbach; and Dylan and Haily Selly; one sister, Mary (Richard) Morgan, of New York; one brother in law, Ken Sager, of Lancaster, Wisconsin; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, June; one sister Ruth Sager; and his parents.
