Odin M. Aune, 78, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Odin was born the youngest of eleven children on February 24, 1933 to Oscar and Mina (Larson) Aune in the Sundahl Township of Gary, Minnesota. He was raised and educated in the Sundahl area. In 1953, Odin enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Frobisher Bay, Canada, where he served as a welder. After Odin received an honorable discharge he was united in marriage to Lois Heyer on December 1, 1956 in Faribault, Minnesota. They moved to Hendrum, Minnesota where Odin worked for the Norman County Highway Department for thirty four years. He was active in the Hendrum community, serving on the local rescue squad, the fire department and city council. Odin was also a member of the American Legion and VFW. After his retirement they moved to Detroit Lakes. Odin is survived by his wife, Lois Aune of Detroit Lakes, MN: son, David (Mary) Aune of Detroit Lakes, MN; daughter, Diane (Curtis) Philumalee of Long Beach, MS; five granddaughters, Chantelle (Andrew) Wimer of Ramsey, MN; Danette (Kevin) Peterson of White Bear Lake, MN; Brianne Aune of Coon Rapids, MN; Lucinda Philumalee of Washington, D.C. and Andrea (Joseph) Houston of Carrboro, NC; two great-grandchildren, Isabelle Wimer and Johan Peterson; four sisters, Alvina Smokov of Anaheim, CA; Harriet Olson of Fertile, MN; Gladys Nephew of Fertile, MN; Marion Everson of Greenbush, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Odin was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Melvin, Sam and Clarence Aune, three sisters, Helen Ellegard, Bernice Ellegard and Irene Halstensgard.
