Ethel C. Nelson, 73, Detroit Lakes, MN died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Ethel was born on August 12, 1938, the daughter of Wilfred and Dorothy (Schott) Sarvie in Grand Park Township of rural Becker County at CCC Camp. She was on the family farm in rural Ponsford and attended school in Frazee, graduating in 1957. As a young women she worked at the Graystone Hotel. Ethel was united in marriage to Paul Nelson on October 31, 1959 at Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. Shortly after their marriage she began her career at Norbychr(39)s Department Store and retired in 1991, as office manager after twenty-nine years. She then went to work for the Detroit Lakes Street and Park Department for a few years. Ethel enjoyed traveling, deer hunting, fishing, golf, bowling and watching country singers perform over the years at WE FEST. Ethel is survived by her husband, Paul Nelson of Detroit Lakes, MN; son, Russ (Lori) Nelson of Detroit Lakes, MN; two brothers, Donald (Charlotte) Sarvie of Okoboji, IA; Edwin Sarvie of Alexandria, MN; one sister, Mildred (Arnold) Blauert of Frazee, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Harold Sarvie.
