Raymond E. Morrison age 53 of Detroit Lakes, MN formerly of Mobridge, SD died Saturday November 26, 2011 at his residence. Raymond Edward Morrison was born on April 30, 1958 in Mobridge, SD to John and Helen Huettner Morrison. He attended school in Mobridge and later in Gregory, SD. In the summer of his sophomore year of high school he was awarded a full scholarship to the International Peace Garden Music Camp. Summer of his junior year he was awarded a full scholarship to an eight week National Science Foundation program studying mathematics, which he completed. He graduated from Gregory High School in 1976. He then attended Columbia University in New York on a full four year scholarship, where he earned a degree in Economics. During his time at Columbia, Ray took some time off and attended City College of New York for a year. He worked briefly for the New York Court of Appeals before moving back to Mobridge in 1982, where he worked as a Life Insurance Agent for Equitable Life. He later attended the University of Michigan to study Journalism. He returned to Mobridge where he continued his career in financial planning. On March 29, 1997 he and Lisa where married in Mobridge. They made their home in a geodesic dome in Little Eagle, SD on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. They moved to Detroit Lakes, MN in 2008, when Lisa took a job practicing law with the Thorwaldson Law Firm. Ray has been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1987 and was very proud of his sobriety. He was constantly studying and learning about politics and finance and at one time ran for a seat in the South Dakota State Senate. Everything that came in his life that was good he viewed as benefits of his sobriety: his job, his beautiful wife, his dome out in Little Eagle, where he lived the 15 best years of his life. Raymond viewed himself as a very blessed man. Ray is survived by his wife Lisa; two brothers, Paul Morrison, of Los Angeles, CA; and Neal Morrison, of Mobridge, SD; one niece, Nicole Morrison, of Eureka, CA; and two nephews, Eric Morrison, of Omaha, NE; and Ben Morrison, of Des Moines, IA. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Robert Morrison.
