Roy V. Hanson

Roy V. Hanson age 88 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Wednesday January 11, 2012 at his residence. Roy Vernon Hanson was born on May 25, 1923 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Arthur and Mabel Crowser Hanson. He grew up and attended District 7 Country School in Richwood Township. He then attended the Crookston Agricultural High School, graduating in 1940. In 1954 he was united in marriage to Lois Conat in Bemidji, MN. They made their home and farmed in Richwood Township. In 1955 Roy purchased his own farm in Richwood Township. Lois died in 1956 and on June 17, 1957 Roy married Lorraine Hart in Detroit Lakes, MN. Roy and Lorraine farmed in Richwood Township for many years. Roy was very active at First Baptist Church in Detroit Lakes, serving as a Deacon and also as a Trustee. Roy was also a Gideon. He was a faithful reader of his bible and also kept a daily journal. Roy was very proud of the fact that he was the fourth generation on his families Century Farm. Roy is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two daughters, Ruth (Paul) Butcher, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Carol (Steve) Viste, of Audubon, MN; two sons, Vernon (Lanette) Hanson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Bert (Saundra) Hanson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two sisters, Esther Thorpe, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Alyce Vanderpoel, of Milaca, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois (1956); his parents; and one brother, Earl Hanson.
