Ruby Bertha Adkins, 95, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota went to the Lord on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Ruby was born on September 23, 1916 the daughter of Frank & Gertrude (Schlenz) Habedank in Ada, Minnesota. She attended country school and graduated from eighth grade. Ruby met her husband, Clarence Eugene "Gene" Adkins at a barn dance and they were united in marriage on March 28, 1936 in Ada, Minnesota. Together they raised three children, Clifford, Shirley & Patricia (Patty). Ruby and Gene moved to Iowa for one year before returning to Ada and began farming. Ruby helped her husband with all the work on the farm. She had a huge vegetable garden and canned everything she could. Ruby raised ducks, geese, chickens and turkeys, which she dressed and sold for extra money in order to purchase a freezer, which she did and she was so proud. Her main goal was to raise her three children and make sure they were "properly" educated. Ruby was very proud of this accomplishment. They farmed from 1940 to 1954, when they moved to Crookston, Minnesota. One year she worked on a potato picker to supplement their income. They resided there until 1960, when they moved to Detroit Lakes, where her husband and son started Adkins Equipment Company. She worked as their bookkeeper until 1965. Ruby and Gene loved to fish. Sadly, Clarence passed away on January 12, 1987. Ruby carried on with her busy life repairing toys and having many garage sales. One of her favorite pastimes was gardening and found joy in sharing the fruits of her labor with others. As a memento, she made and gave quilts to all her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking, especially her breads and playing cards. In November of 2010, she moved to Emmanuel Nursing Home. May God bless Rubychr(39)s memory. Ruby is survived by her three children, Clifford (Janice) Adkins of Detroit Lakes, MN; Shirley (Dennis) Hasbrouck of Crookston, MN and Patricia (Robert) Adams of Jacksonville, FL; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Stanley (Ramona) Habedank of Twin Valley, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence, one brother, Alvin, two sisters, Edna Mulder and Ethel Wallace.
