Toye L. Odegaard, 97, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota died Monday, March 12, 2012 at his home. Toye was born on May 26, 1914, the son of Iver and Betsy (Leegard) Odegaard in rural Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He attended country school and helped on the family farm as a young man. Toye was united in marriage to Ida Johnson on April 26, 1941 in Westbury, Minnesota. They made their home in Detroit Lakes until they moved to Hawley, Minnesota, where Toye worked for Minnesota Valley Breeders Association until retiring in 1976. They returned to Detroit Lakes for their retirement years and were members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Toye enjoyed gardening with Ida, woodworking and playing his harmonica for his family. He always treasured the time spent with his children and grandchildren. Toye is survived by his wife of seventy years, Ida Odegaard of Detroit Lakes, MN; five children, Kathy (Dick) Riedberger of Detroit Lakes, MN; Ordell (Peggy) Odegaard of Park Rapids, MN; Roger (Jean) Odegaard of Alexandria, MN; James (Melanie) Odegaard of Hawley, MN; Betty (Steve) Wignes of Nevis, MN; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Toye was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Bradley Odegaard, four brothers, Gaylord, Alfred, Julian and Julius Odegaard, four sisters, Ida and Gladys Odegaard, Odena Anderson and Ina Coughlin.
