Gust U. Brown age 84 of rural Frazee, MN died Monday March 19, 2012 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Gust Underwood Brown was born November 3, 1927 in Detroit Lakes, Becker County, MN, the son of Clarence and Rose (Olson) Brown. He grew up in Detroit Lakes and attended the Washington Grade School and Holmes High School. He was confirmed at First Lutheran Church by Rev. I.O. Jacobson. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from Oct. 10, 1945 to Nov. 3, 1948, in the Pacific Campaign. He served on three Atomic Bomb tests at Enewetok Atoll, Virgin Islands (Pacific Proving Grounds) in the spring of 1948. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from Nov. 17, 1953 to August 2, 1955. He married Fern Nelson of Pelican Rapids, in St. Paul on December 18, 1959 where they made their home until December of 1963. They moved to their present home in rural Frazee in January of 1964 where they have resided since. He worked as a construction laborer until becoming employed as a school bus driver with Schultz Bus Company in 1972 and retiring in May of 1998, he also farmed. He is survived by his wife, Fern; children, Daniel (Vicki) Burdick, of Hibbing, MN; Nicky Miranda, of Yuma, CO; Carl (Cindy) Brown, of Otis, CO; and Sam (Barbara) Graton, of Yuma, CO; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Denver Brown, of Richwood, MN; sister, Donna Mae Bigger, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and the mothers of his children, Ruby Burdick, of Hibbing, MN; and Zelda (Leonard) Graton, of Yuma, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Daniel and Donald; daughter in law, Alice Brown; grandchildren, Michelle and Chuck Brown; sister in law, Mae Brown; and brother in law, Delwone Bigger.
