Mary Ann Nylander, 87, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Monday, March 26, 2012 at Emmanuel Community in Detroit Lakes MN of complications from Alzheimerchr(39)s Disease. Mary Ann Braseth was born August 31, 1924, near Lake Park, MN. She attended school in Lake Park, graduating in 1941. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College for two years, earning her teaching certificate. Mary Ann began her teaching career at Rural District 2near Lake Park. On March 24, 1945 she married Vanner Nylander.In 1958 Mary Ann resumed her teaching career and continued her education earning a Masters Degree. Vanner died in 1981. She taught second and fourth grade at the elementary school in Hawley MN, retiring in 1985. Following retirement she worked part time for Moorhead State University as a student teaching supervisor. Mary Ann enjoyed traveling and playing the piano. She was active in First Lutheran Church, Audubon, before moving to Emmanuel. Mary Ann Nylander is survived by daughters: Judie (Jace) Lahlum, Park Rapids, MN; Susan (James) Aberdeen, Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada; son Robert, Audubon, MN; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and two brothers.
