Ruth M. Kertscher age 83 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Monday, April 30, 2012 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Ruth Mildred Kertscher was born on April 22, 1929 in Ogema, MN to William and Helen (Disterhoff) Bevins. She grew up and attended school in Ogema, MN. The family later moved to Elbow Lake, MN. On Jan. 25, 1947 she was united in marriage to Frederick L. Kertscher. They made their home and raised their family in the Detroit Lakes area. Ruth operated the Lakeland Cafe in Detroit Lakes for several years. She also worked at Baberchr(39)s Truck Stop and later worked for many years at the Holland Motel in Detroit Lakes. Ruth enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and playing cards. She also liked to attend yard sales. She is survived by her husband Fred; five daughters, Sandra Ochr(39)Connor, of Wendell, MN; Myrna (James) Vickroy, of Little Canada, MN; Cynthia Tucker, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Julia Hanson (Todd Paulson), of Emerado, ND; and Donna Foust, of Friendsville, TN; one son, David Kertscher, of Detroit Lakes, MN; fifteen grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one brother, Lester Bevins, of West St. Paul, MN; three sisters, Edith Donley, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Donna Aarness, of Fergus Falls, MN; and Doris Mercier, of Arizona. She was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis and Douglas Kertscher; one grandson; Bobby Lee Tucker; two granddaughters, Kimberly Jean Hanson and Katie McSorley; one great granddaughter, Ruby Jane Brown; three brothers, Robert, Willie, and Alvin Bevins; two sisters, Florence Olson and Delores Kiviaho; and her parents.
