Leo "Red" J. Sloan, 83, Osage, Minnesota, died Monday, May 14, 2012 at his home. Red was born on April 30, 1929, the son of Wesley and Eileen (Dutton) Sloan in Park Rapids, Minnesota. He received his education in Park Rapids. Red was united in marriage to June Borst on January 21, 1950 in Park Rapids. As a young man he worked at the Noeske Lumber Company and later worked as a heavy equipment operator for various construction companies in the Park Rapids area. Red eventually started to work for the Park Rapids School District as a bus driver and grounds keeper, until his retirement in 1991. Red enjoyed woodworking with his scroll saw, fishing, daily crossword puzzles and reading. But the time spent with his family and grandchildren were the moments that meant the most to Red. Red is survived by his, daughter, Pam (Ed) Ranua of Detroit Lakes, MN, son, Gary Sloan of Moorhead, MN; three grandchildren, Nicole (Jason) Gervais, Dawn (Steve) Thompson and Jeffrey (Andi) Ranua; six great-grandchildren, Chloe and Elizabeth Thompson, Dylan, Cade and Levi Ranua and Cash Gervais; several nieces and nephews. Red was preceded in death by his parents and wife, June (2011).
