Silvy A. Horken

Silvy A. Horken, 94, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, passed peacefully from here to heaven on July 8, 2012 at the Cottages, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Silvy was born on July 28, 1917 and raised in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Gust and Agnes (Rolland) Hansen. She married Cliff Horken in her parentchr(39)s parlor in 1941. Silvy and her late husband, Cliff were married sixty-two years. She and Cliff moved twenty-five times to follow his career. They lived the last years together in Prescott, Wisconsin. Silvy moved to Phoenix, Arizona for three years and then to Detroit Lakes. She was active in church everywhere she lived, teaching Sunday School, directing youth Choir, playing the piano, hosting bible studies and serving where ever she was needed. She shared her love for her Lord with everyone she met. She enjoyed music, gardening, art, cooking and many crafts. Towards the end of her life she was so proud to have her articles printed under the caption of "Fond Memories of a Happy Norwegian". Silvy is survived by her four children, Richard "Dick" and Emilie (Peterson) Horken of Prescott, WI; Roberta "Bobbie" (Horken) and Jim Flatz of Prescott, WI; Carol (Horken) Turner of Detroit Lakes, MN; Bruce and Laurel (Simmons) Horken of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Silvy was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff, son-in-law, Paul Turner and grandson, Mike. Silvy was a proud supporter of World Vision "? memorials will be directed to this Organization whose prayer is that every child may live life in itchr(39)s fullness or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
