David W. Keen Sr. age 62 of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away in his sleep on August 10, 2012 at his residence. David William Keen was born on Sept. 4, 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland to Edward and Doris Keusch Keen. David attended school in Baltimore, MD and Willow River, MN before moving to Detroit Lakes, MN in 1967 when his parents purchased the "Blue Goose," a bar on Richwood Road, north of Detroit Lakes. In 1968 David joined the Navy, attending basic training in San Diego, CA. He served during the Vietnam War on the USS Leary and the USS Windham County LST. Upon returning home, David rekindled an old love with a young widow who had a small daughter. They made their home in Detroit Lakes where David worked part time for the Becker County Sheriffs Department and also attended school at the Detroit Lakes Tech for Business Management and Construction. David and Sharon ventured into business, owning several small businesses including a grocery store in Ogema, MN, D&E Construction, a pawn shop, Northside Sport Shop in Detroit Lakes, a small real estate business, DL Baseball Card Shop, and Country Girls Concession Stand that was set up at Shady Hollow Flea Market for 22 years. During these years David and Sharon were blessed with two more children. He was a lifetime member of the Becker County Sportman's Club and also the Elks Club. He also served as the VFW Little League Baseball Commissioner for many years. David is survived by his life long partner, Sharon Keen; mother, Doris Keen, of Detroit Lakes, MN; two daughters, Lynn (Jerome) Hendricks, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Sharon (Michael) Dekker, of Stillwater, MN; one son, David (Tasha) Keen Jr., of Moorhead, MN; three sisters, Doris "Penny" Vogt, of Oregon; Carol Gilbert, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Donna (Thurman) Lee, of Missouri; three brothers, Norman Keen, of Washington; Edward (Cindy) Keen III, of Washington; and Michael (Colleen) Keen, of Alaska and Oregon; seven grandchildren, Crystal, Matthew, Carissa, Hannah, Cheyann, Briah, and David; one great grandson, Gabriel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father, Edward Keen (1996).
