Ernest M. Hukriede, 76, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Friday, October 05, 2012 at St. Marychr(39)s "?Essentia Health, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Ernie was born December 17, 1935 the son of Emil and Faye (Fuller) Hukriede in Eagle Bend, Minnesota. He graduated from Backus High School in 1953. As a young man, Ernie enlisted in the United States Army Reserve and served for several years. He was united in marriage to Carol Andresen on July 9, 1961 at Lund Lutheran Church. Ernie owned and operated Erniechr(39)s Construction and later was renamed H & R Construction when his brother-in-law joined the company. Later in his career he was an instructor at Minnesota State Community and Technical College in the construction program in Detroit Lakes. Ernie also was involved in starting the construction program in Wadena and Waubun. He served with the Becker County Auxiliary Police for twenty-three years. Ernie enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He also restored many cars and trucks throughout his life. Ernie cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Ernie is survived by his wife, Carol Hukriede; son, Brett (Kim Marie) Hukriede; daughter, Kim (James) Erickson all of Detroit Lakes, MN; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Andrea) Erickson, Nick Erickson, Matthew (Rhonda) Hukriede, Bryce, Andrew, Irisa and Inessa Hukriede, Heather Bull; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis (Max) Friday of Nevis, MN; one brother, Wayne (Phyllis) Hukriede of Detroit Lakes, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Lucas Hukriede, two brothers, Donald and Larry.
