Marlys Marie (Peterson) May, 68, of Frazee MN, passed away under hospice care on October 20th, 2012 at her home in Frazee MN. Marlys May was born to Ole and Marnie (Deede) Peterson on Feb. 18, 1944 in Leeds ND. She grew up on a farm southwest of Minnewaukan and attended grade schools in Josephine and Flora. In 1954 she moved with her family to Minnewaukan where she completed grade school and graduated from high school in 1963. Marlys worked part time for the Benson County Press, as a life guard at the Minnewaukan Municipal pool and for the Benson County Auditors office. It was in Minnewaukan that she met the love of her life, George May, whom she married on May 8th, 1964 at the First Presbyterian Church in Minnewaukan. They live in Devils Lake, ND until moving to Wahpeton ND in 1966. While living in Wahpeton she was a bookkeeper for a manufacturing firm and enjoyed bowling on several leagues and taking ceramic classes. In 1976 the family moved to Valley City ND where they raised three children. Marlys instructed ceramic classes and later worked as a floral designer for the local floral shops. She enjoyed bowling on several bowling leagues, camping and boating with the family. In 2002 Marlys and George moved to a lake home near Frazee MN. She worked for a floral shop in Detroit Lakes until her retirement. Marlys enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, league bowling, floral designing, painting mediums of all kinds and visiting with people. Marlys is survived by her husband, George of Frazee; a daughter Alicia May, Lindstrom MN; two sons and two daughter-in-laws, Todd and Sharon May of Horace ND and Michael and Julie May of Valley City ND; five grandchildren, Austen, Conner, Zachary, Samantha and Lauren; a sister, Shirley Wettstein of Sabin MN; two brothers, Curtis Peterson of Copperas Cove TX; Larry Peterson of Springfield OR; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Roger Peterson and Harold Peterson; one sister, Sharon Moylan.
