Dean W. Livingood

Dean W. Livingood, 81, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Friday, November 9, 2012, after several years of living with dementia. He passed away peacefully at the Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes with family by his side. Dean was born on April 19, 1931 the son of Charles B. and Esther (Lee) Livingood in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in rural Detroit Lakes. Dean was married to Mae Hovelsrud on January 17, 1951 in Detroit Lakes. They moved to Alabama while Dean served in the military. Dean and Mae returned to Minnesota and moved to Hibbing to work in the iron mines. They returned to Detroit Lakes for a short time while Dean worked at Hawkinchr(39)s Distributing. He was later transferred to Fergus Falls, where he worked for Hammchr(39)s Brewing Company, before returning to the family farm in rural Detroit Lakes. Dean began farming and also went to work for the City of Detroit Lakes Public Utilities. He worked for the City of Detroit Lakes for many years before retiring in 1991. Dean was an active member of Bakke Lutheran Church. During retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, camping, winters in Texas and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dean is survived by his children, Bruce (Nancy) Livingood of Ham Lake, MN; Michael (Lolly) Livingood of Detroit Lakes, MN; Steven (Louise) Livingood of Three Forks, MT; Connie (Jeff) Adkins of Detroit Lakes, MN; Carol (Gary) Wood of Detroit Lakes, MN; Keith (Patricia) Livingood of Shoreview, MN; eighteen grandchildren, Aaron (Amanda) Livingood, Laura Livingood, Angela (Eric) Hoopman, Jennifer Livingood, Tom Heurung Jr., Trevor (Emily) Heurung, Benjamin (April) Livingood, Andrew (Denette) Livingood, Joseph Livingood, James (Jennifer) Livingood, Robert Adkins, Melissa (Ron) Mack, Bruce (Kandi) Adkins, Lisa (Tom) Kvas, Gary (Kari) Wood Jr., Adam (Ashley) Wood, Jason & Kyle Livingood; twenty one great-grandchildren; four brothers, Lester, Leonard(Alfryda), Marlyn(Phylliss) and Harlan(Pat); two sisters, Charlene Johnsonand Marlys Brahmer; brother-in-law Dayton Jacobson, sister-in-law Elly Livingood; numerous nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mae (2011), infant son, Dean Livingood Jr., great-grandson, Eric Hoopman Jr., two brothers, Edwin and Curt, four sisters, Alice Storm, Gladys Voxland, Myrtle Jacobson and Vernes Jacobson.
