Victoria V. Ellis age 85 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Nov. 12, 2012 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. Victoria Veronica Ellis was born on January 8, 1927 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, Canada to Peter and Katherine Kolman Usselman. She grew up and attended school there. In 1946 she was united in marriage to John Gertz in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They made their home in Winnipeg until moving to Chicago, IL in 1953. In 1961 they moved to Grand Forks, ND. In 1970 Vickie was united in marriage to Fred Ellis in Grand Forks. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Detroit Lakes. Vickie worked as a hairdresser at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes for many years. She also cleaned homes for numerous families in the area. Vickie loved to work with ceramics. She also enjoyed collecting Nick Nacks and Jewelry. Time spent at the lake was also very special to her. She was known for her Pickles, Sauerkraut, Cabbage Rolls, and German Chocolate Cake. She and her husband Fred were members of the Optimist Club and together enjoyed the hobby of being clowns. They participated in many parades, parties, and benefits over the years. Her clown name was "Sweet Pickle." She is survived by one daughter, Darlene Greene, of Fargo, ND; one son, Les (Brenda) Gertz, of Marinette, WI; two step sons, Bruce (Stacy) Moe, of Vergas, MN; and Todd Moe, of Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and one brother, Jack Usselman, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Gertz (1963); her second husband, Fred Ellis (1997); one son, Dwight Gertz; one brother; one sister; and her parents.
