Alvin LeRoy Retz

Alvin LeRoy Retz age 78 of Frazee, MN died January 7, 2013 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Alvin LeRoy Retz was born on September 6, 1934 in Watertown, South Dakota to Gaylord and Joy Minor Retz. Alvin was a young boy when his family moved to Ponsford, MN. He grew up and attended Country School in that area. He worked as a logger for Bud Wattenhoner and also at the Two Inlets Saw Mill. He was united in marriage to Viola Wohlsdorf on December 27, 1959 in Detroit Lakes, MN. Alvin worked for Blacktop Construction of Frazee for a few years before starting a 37 year career as a heavy equipment operator for Kern and Tabery Road Construction of Wadena, MN. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, snowmobiling, gardening, and playing cards. He also liked spending time relaxing at home on the outdoor swing. He is survived by his wife, Viola; one daughter, Annette Grindall, of Detroit Lakes, MN; one son, Allen Retz, of Detroit Lakes, MN; three grandchildren, Aunna (Andy) Braton, Cody Grindall, and Brandon (Carrie) Grindall; two great grandchildren, Stephanie and Dominic Braton; one sister, Dora DeWandler, of Ponsford, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers, William, Harry, Leo, Richard, and Russell Retz.
