Karen Lee Grant, 62, of Audubon, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Monday, January 21, 2013 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND. Karen was born on February 22, 1950 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Donna Thompson. She attended school in Audubon, where she met the love of her life, Brad Grant. They were united in marriage at First Lutheran Church of Audubon, on August 31, 1968. They made their home in Audubon. Karen worked 25 years at the Audubon Supper Club. She also ran a home daycare for 40 years, until having to retire in 2010, due to health reasons. This was very difficult for her as every child she cared for was very special to her. Karen loved her family more than anything else. She could not get enough of her grandchildren and loved to brag about them and their accomplishments, whether big or small. She spoiled them, especially at Christmas, her favorite time of year. Karen spent many hours decorating her yard and home, going for walks, visiting with everyone, and most recently challenging others with games on her Ipad. Karen is survived by her husband of 44 years; her three daughters, Kellie (Eric) Speicher of Perham, Kristina (Tony) Gordon of Audubon, and Kari (Chad) Qualley of Fargo; Nine Grandchildren, Kayla, Jessica, Brady, and Carson Speicher, Brian Gordon, Madison, Abigail, Isabella, and Kinley Qualley; Five brothers, Gary (Jackie) Hoban of Callaway, Larry (Cheryl) Hoban of Ogema, Kevin Hoban of Ogema, James Kohler of Detroit Lakes, Timothy (Tracy) Kohler of Detroit Lakes; five sisters, Wanda (Mike) Doty of Bemidji, Kay (Andrew) Adler of Illinois, Sue (Bill) Tollefson of Twin Valley, Gail Wells of Missouri, and Kim Kohler of Big Lake. Karen is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jessica; her mother; her father, Milo Hoban, and her stepfather, William G. Kohler.
