Paul A. Hazelton, 60, rural Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Essentia Health, Fargo, North Dakota. Paul was born on February 20, 1953, the son of Boyd and Ella (Olson) Hazelton in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes. As a young man he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War. Paul was united in marriage to Kathleen Askelson on July 22, 1972 at Richwood Lutheran Church. In 1973, upon his return from active duty, Paul and Kathy made there home in Detroit Lakes. He started to work for Gabor Trucking and worked for several constructions firms in the area. At the time of his death he worked at HS Contracting in Moorhead. Paul enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, snow plowing, playing farmer and having a cold Schmidt Beer. He loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Paul will be missed by his family and friends. Paul is survived by his wife, Kathy Hazelton of rural Detroit Lakes, MN; three sons, Travis (Kristi) Hazelton of Lake Park, MN; Tracy (Natalie) Hazelton of Moorhead, MN; Troy (Kristi) Hazelton of Rochert, MN; twelve grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Irene) Hazelton of Callaway, MN; Ronald Hazelton of Winthrop, MN; two sisters, Berdella (Oskar) Schock of Tacoma, WA; Betty (Peter) Anderson of Detroit Lakes, MN; three sisters-in-law, Annette (Elmer) Dibley of Ulen, MN; Shirley (Richard) Larson of Detroit Lakes, MN; Beverly (Dave Boman) Wang of Twin Valley, MN;one brother-in-law, Darrell (Jean) Vizenor of Rochert, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Duane.
