Ronald Burton Fasteen age 83, of Detroit Lakes Minnesota passed away in his sleep on April 30, 2013. Ron was born on July 21, 1929 to Milton and Agnes Fasteen in Virginia MN. Ron moved to Detroit Lakes Minnesota shortly following his graduation from Virginia High School were he met his future wife Helen Mae Wolff of Waubun, MN. Ron and Helen were married on April 22, 1951 before his enlistment in the United States Army in 1953. Ron served with the United States Army during the Korean War where learned his trade in the correspondence business. Following his discharge from the military, Ron, Helen, and son Bruce returned to the Detroit Lakes area where he began his 47+ year career with the Detroit Lakes newspaper. Ron began his career as a linotype setter and proof reader, moving on to advertising, circulation, production of marketing, employee manager, and the commercial publication division. Ron was an exceptional bowler, an avid golfer with a passion for hunting. Ron loved deer hunting with his children, his father Milton, brother Don, father in-law George, longtime companions Russell Wolff, Lloyd Beling, Richard Kvamme along with Erling Eibs and Les Kuivanen. Ron was very active with his family, service Clubs including the Elks, American Legion, Eagles, VFW, civic committees including the police committee, youth organizations including the youth baseball, youth football, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, First Lutheran Church and the board of directors. He is also a member of the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Half-Century Club. Ron is survived by his children, Bruce Fasteen of Fargo, ND., Terry (Kathryn) Fasteen, Detroit Lakes, MN., Susan (Dean) Berg Detroit Lakes, MN., Scott Fasteen Bismarck, ND., Renee Fasteen (Tom Michon) Detroit Lakes, six grandchildren Neil (Jodi) Fasteen Portland Or, Jeffrey Fasteen Billings Mt., Jennifer (Steve) Frank Detroit Lakes, Kari (Jacob) Baer Alexandria, Danny (Angela) Fasteen Fargo, Dustin Barnes Moorhead, four great-grandchildren and June Fasteen sister in-law, Louisville, KY. Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Helen, his parents, and his two brothers.
