Laurel H. "Ozzie" Aasgaard age 86 of Detroit Lakes, MN died May 9, 2013 at Essentia Health- St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes. Laurel Hanfred Aasgaard was born on March 26, 1927 near Flom, MN to Lawrence and Hannah Albertson Aasgaard. He grew up near Flom and attended the Home Lake District 44 Country School. He graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1945. He then served in the United States Navy during WWII and later in the United States Army during the Korean War. On August 15, 1951 he was united in marriage to Jeanniane Thorson at Aspelund Lutheran Church in Flom, MN. Ozzie worked as a Radio Technician for the MN State Highway Patrol and the MN Dept. of Transportation in Virginia, MN from 1953-1960 and from 1960-1973 in Detroit Lakes, MN. They lived in Duluth for one year before moving to Wadena, MN in 1975 where he taught Electronics at the Northwest Technical College until his retirement in 1987. They moved back to Detroit Lakes in 1989. He was an active member at First Lutheran Church, where he served on the Church Council and was a member of the Brown Baggers. He was a life member of the VFW. He also served as a volunteer at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. He was a leader in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and also the Explorer Scout Program. He was also a Ham Radio Operator and enjoyed collecting and restoring vintage radios. He is survived by his wife Jeanniane; three sons, Stuart (Linda) Aasgaard, of Boseman, MT; Dean Aasgaard, of St. Paul, MN; and Paul (Lisbeth) Aasgaard, of Fergus Falls, MN; one daughter, Jane (Jeff) Miller, of Plymouth, MN; seven grandchildren; one sister, Juliette Urdahl, of Ulen, MN; and several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Milton Aasgaard; and three sisters, Lorraine Aasgaard, Alice LaPort, and Juanita Thompson.
