Betty R. Nordgulen age 76 of Milaca, MN died May 28, 2013 at her residence under Hospice care. Betty Rose Nordgulen was born on November 17 1936 in Hankinson, North Dakota to Hans and Anne Figge Andresen. In 1944 she moved with her family to Richwood Township in rural Detroit Lakes, MN. She grew up and attended Country School near her home. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1954. She then worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Detroit Lakes. On Jan. 1, 1956 she was united in marriage to Arlin Nordgulen in Detroit Lakes, MN. They lived in France for 18 months, where Arlin was stationed in the service. Following Arlin's discharge they moved to Moorhead, MN. Throughout the years they lived in various places, including Atlanta, GA, Fargo, Minot and Grand Forks, ND, and Kansas City, MO. Betty decided to further her education and in 1983 earned an Associate R.N. Degree from Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS. They moved to Alexandria, MN in 1985 where she worked at the Douglas County Hospital and later as a public health nurse for Douglas County. She retired in 1997. Betty and Arlin have been living in Milaca for the past year. Betty loved cross stiching, traveling, fishing, cooking, and baking. She was an extremely caring person who thoroughly enjoyed being a nurse and time spent with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Arlin; two sons, Bradley Nordgulen, of Overland Park, KS; and Keith Nordgulen, of Greenfield, WI; two daughters, LeeAnn (Dennis) Hanson, of Litchfield, MN; and Amy (Troy) Kuether, of Milaca, MN; six grandchildren; one brother, Wayne (Cheryl) Andresen, of Spokane, WA; two sisters, Dorothy Erlandson, of Hilmar, CA; and Carol Hukriede, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Jean Johnson and Mary Rudolph.
