Grace M. Mickelberg age 97 passed away Thursday June 6, 2013 at Ecumen Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN surrounded by family and friends. Grace was born on August 22, 1915 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Andrew and Jennie Ketchum Rasmussen. She grew up in Detroit Lakes and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1933. Following graduation Grace enrolled in the Palmer Method of Business Writing and was awarded the Students Award of Completion. On October 21, 1942 Grace was united in marriage to Vernon F. Mickelberg in El Paso, Texas, where Vernon was receiving his military training. They later moved to Florida where Vernon received additional military training in preparation to ship overseas. Grace returned to Detroit Lakes. Grace worked at JC Penny and in the early 50's went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company where she retired from in the early 70's. Grace enjoyed her family and friends of whom she had many. She enjoyed playing bridge and whist and hosted many card party luncheons. Grace and her sisters, Gertrude and Florence took many enjoyable automobile trips. Grace and Vernon also traveled to see their daughter and son in law in England. In the early 80's Grace enjoyed traveling the east coast from Cape Cod to Canada with her daughter and son in law. She was also a very avid reader, loved good mysteries, and was a master at cross word puzzles. Grace is survived by her son James (Susan) Mickelberg, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and her daughter, Janet (George) Peters, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; three sisters, Gertrude Lynch, Florence Rasmussen, and Alice Courneya; and her parents.
