Joyce Ollis-Star Bakke

Joyce Ollis-Star Bakke, 90, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Frazee Care Center, Frazee, Minnesota. Joyce was born on August 21, 1922, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Damschen) Stengl in Van Hook, North Dakota. As a young child, she moved with her family to Pelican Rapids, where she was raised and educated. Joyce was united in marriage to Arvid Anderson on April 14, 1941. They moved to the Oregon area, where Joyce worked as a welder in the shipyards during WWII. After the war, they returned to the Vergas area to farm. In 1956, Joyce and Arvid moved to Detroit Lakes. She worked as a cashier for grocery stores in the area for many years. Arvid passed away in 1970. Joyce later, married Walter Bakke on March 17, 1981. They made their home in Winger, Minnesota until his death in 1994, when Joyce returned to Detroit Lakes. Joyce was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, dancing and playing cards. Joyce is survived by her two sons, Ron (Jan) Anderson of Rochert, MN; Les Anderson of Nevada; daughter-in-law, Diantha Ellis; six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Stengl; sisters-in-law, Erma Stengl; Gwen Stengl and Teddy Stengl; numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Arvid Anderson and Walter Bakke, son, Arvil Anderson, grandson, Todd Anderson, great-granddaughter, Tierra, four brothers, Howard, Herbert, Jim and Vaughn Stengl, sister, Audrey Robley.
