Alma Rose Clements

Alma R. Clements age 93 of Detroit Lakes, MN died January 11, 2013 at Ecumen -Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Alma Rose Voelker was born on September 28, 1919 in Frazee, MN to Charles and Mary Schultz Voelker. She graduated from Frazee High School in 1937 and attended Detroit Lakes Business College. She married Charles Ernest Kopp on Nov. 6, 1938 in Frazee, MN. They made their home in Detroit Lakes where Ernie and a partner had a Jukebox business. Alma and one of her sisters did some traveling to state fairs with the owners of Breezy Shores Resort, Fred and Marie Diles and demonstrated kitchen gadgets. They later bought a resort on Lake Melissa and Alma also worked for Diamond's in Detroit Lakes. While there, Bill Robbins from the newspaper came in and asked her if she would write an article for the paper. She agreed and began a recipe column called "K's Kitchen Klippings." They left the resort for two years at the request of Ernie's former business partner and moved to Renton, WA, where he worked for Boeing as an electrician. Alma clerked at Frederick & Martin Dept. Store in Seattle and also was a teletype operator for Kenworth Truck Co. They returned to the resort and in 1963 moved to Moorhead, where Ernie worked for Aitkin Electric and Alma at Blacks and McShanes and then Cass County Welfare. Ernie passed away on September 24, 1964. Alma married Howard Clements on March 10, 1966 in Fargo, ND. She continued to work at the welfare office. They moved to California for a short time and then moved to Ottumwa, IA, where they owned and operated an offset printing business and Alma was office manager. They came back to Minnesota to retire. Howard passed away in 2000. Alma had many hobbies; such as, reading, crocheting, china painting, playing the organ, and of course, clipping recipes. She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Breivold, of Fargo, ND; and Kathy (Kenny) Illg, of Frazee, MN; three grandsons, Scott Breivold, of Glendale, CA; Michael Breivold, of Tempe, AZ; and David Illg, of Moorhead, MN; one granddaughter, Kristi (Jim) Rorah, of Brookings, SD; one great granddaughter, Brittany Rorah; one great grandson, Blaine Filand-Rorah; three stepsons, Howard Clements, Clyde Clements, and David Clements and their families; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, three sisters, one brother, one half brother, two nieces, and two nephews.
